The Black Bull
If you're anywhere near Peterlee and haven’t checked out The Black Bull, you’re seriously missing out on one of the liveliest spots in the area. Nestled at 10 The Village, this place blends classic pub vibes with a surprisingly diverse and satisfying menu. Whether you're craving a hearty meal, just fancy a pint, or looking to kick back with live music and bar games, The Black Bull ticks more boxes than you’d expect.
The minute you step in, there’s an unmistakable warmth-partly because of the friendly staff, but also thanks to the welcoming setup that includes wheelchair-accessible entrance, seating, and toilet access. While the car park might not be the easiest for wheelchair users, once you’re inside, it’s all smooth sailing. It also has a fantastic outdoor seating area for those sunnier days-ideal for a cold beer or two with friends.
Speaking of beer, The Black Bull boasts a great selection. Whether you’re into craft ales, wine, cocktails, or spirits, the bar doesn’t disappoint. Beer lovers will be glad to know this spot is known for having one of the best beer selections in Peterlee. And if you’re more of a tea or coffee person? No worries-they serve top-notch brews too, which says a lot about their attention to detail.
Now, let’s talk food-because honestly, the menu here is the kind of comfort food dream that covers all cravings. The Sizzling Rump Steak with Sweet Potato Fries hits the spot if you're after something meaty and satisfying. For something a little spicier, the Chicken Fajitas bring a good kick. The Classic Mixed Grill Platter is ideal if you can’t decide and want to try a bit of everything-trust me, it’s a protein-packed powerhouse.
Not in the mood for steak or fajitas? How about some Pulled Pork, Wraps with Coleslaw, or a cheeky Dorty Dawg N Dorty Fries? These options prove that pub food doesn’t have to be boring. And if you’re in the mood for something with an Indian twist, the Curry House Feast (a newer addition to the menu) serves up a flavor punch you’ll remember. Oh, and the Chicken Tikka Skewers with Rice and Veg-comforting, flavorful, and perfect if you're in the mood for something grilled but lighter.
No visit is complete without dessert, and this is where The Black Bull truly wins hearts. The Sticky Toffee Pudding, Chocolate Fudge Cake, and Eton Mess are all crowd-pleasers. If you’re the custard type, you’re in luck-smooth, creamy, and just the way it should be. Pair it with a coffee or a glass of bubbly Champagne if you’re feeling fancy.
What makes the experience here even better is the vibe. The Black Bull isn’t just a restaurant-it’s a place to hang out. With bar games, live music, and TVs tuned to the latest sports events, it’s easy to lose track of time. Whether you're solo dining, out for a casual lunch, or winding down with dinner and drinks, it delivers every time. It’s also popular with locals for a reason-there’s a real sense of community and good energy.
The Black Bull also covers all service styles-you can dine in, order for takeaway, or get it delivered to your door. It’s a proper all-rounder that doesn’t try too hard to impress-it just naturally does. The balance between quality food, a killer drink selection, and a chilled social atmosphere is what makes this place worth visiting again and again.

Arrived tonight, the Atmosphere was calm, clean, we were taken to our booked table, were we ordered starter to share, mains, and dessert, everything was perfect, great pub/diner, compliments to all of you.
Black bull, good prices £10-£20. Anything from starters to steaks and main meals like lazange and has nice desserts too! Love the 2 meals for £13.50 offer it's great
Called here on a Saturday afternoon for something to eat. Upon entry we were immediately made to feel welcomed and we were greeted by some friendly locals. They have plenty of tv screens with sports on and have plenty to choose from on the menus. Parking outside was easy. The service was very quick but the food was pretty standard for the price paid. Overall though would return but maybe not for a bite to eat. This seems like more of a local pub where you go to drink as opposed to have a bite to eat. (Everyone is so friendly though).
A local little establishment which is great for social gatherings with both friends and family alike. Staff were helpful and it appeals to all ages
Just come back from a wonderful meal. The prices are competitive but the portion just right. The whole pub has a great atmosphere and as today was Good Friday was decorated with balloons to give it a party atmosphere (at first I thought they were for reserved tables and a party) but NO they were for anyone and everyone. The staff are really fantastic bringing drinks (even a glass of water) and food to our table. We will definitely return. Thanks
